2 min read

Updated 23 October 2026. Here are the current residential electricity rates in Pakistan, as notified by NEPRA in S.R.O. 279(I)/2026 (decision of 11 February 2026). They apply to all government DISCOs and K-Electric. Rates are before FCA, QTA and taxes.

The 200-unit rule

If you use 200 units or less every month for six months, you are a protected consumer and pay Rs 10.54–13.01 per unit. Use 201 units in a single month and you lose protected status for the next six months. That can roughly double your per-unit rate, so the 200-unit line is the most important number on your bill.

Unprotected consumers are charged all units at the rate of the slab they reach. For example, 250 units cost 250 × Rs 33.10, not 100 at one rate and 150 at another.

What gets added on top

  • FCA: currently Rs 1.1086/unit in October 2026 bills (details)
  • QTA: the quarterly tariff adjustment, when notified
  • Sales tax: 18% on the bill amount
  • Any provincial levy and arrears shown on your bill

From January 2027, slab-based subsidies are expected to move to a targeted, BISP-based subsidy. We will update these rates when NEPRA notifies any change.

7 ways to keep your bill down

  1. Watch your meter in the last week of the month and stay at or below 200 units if you’re close.
  2. Switch to an inverter AC and set it to 26°C.
  3. Replace old fans with DC/inverter fans (about 30–40 W instead of 80–100 W).
  4. Run the iron, washing machine and water pump during off-peak hours if you have a TOU meter.
  5. Use the Electricity Load Estimator to find which appliances use the most power.
  6. Check whether solar with net metering makes sense using the Net Metering Calculator.
  7. Check your sanctioned load. Fixed charges are per kW, so an oversized load costs you every month.
