Electricity tariffs have crossed Rs. 65/unit. A well‑planned system can lock your energy cost for 25 years. But since Feb 2026, new net metering consumers face a different buyback rate – we explain both.

A bi‑directional meter records both import (from grid) and export (from solar). You pay only the net difference. Export rates now depend on when you registered – see next section.

Continue to receive power purchase price (approx. 25‑26 Rs./unit) for every unit exported to the grid. This rate is close to what you pay for imported electricity.

🆕 new consumers (Feb 2026 onward)

Will receive energy purchase price (approx. 9‑10 Rs./unit) for exported power. This is the average cost the utility saves by not having to buy expensive fuel. Still beneficial, but payback period becomes slightly longer.

📌 For new applicants: your application date decides the rate. Always ask your installer for the latest NEPRA / DISCO notification. Existing consumers remain on the old rate as long as they don't upgrade to a larger system (check with utility).

Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) ranks solar panel manufacturers based on bankability and project track record. Tier‑1 panels are more reliable, easier to finance, and hold higher resale value. Always ask your installer for the Tier‑1 status of the panel brand.
