Why protected status matters (2026 rates)
| Units / month | Protected bill | Unprotected bill | You save |
|---|
Energy charges at NEPRA S.R.O. 279(I)/2026 rates with FCA Rs 1.11/unit and 18% GST; fixed charges excluded. Lifeline consumers (≤100 units, 1 kW) pay even less.
How the rule works
- You are protected if your bill was 200 units or less in each of the previous six months.
- One month above 200 units removes protected status for the next six bills, even if you go back under 200.
- To regain it, you need six months in a row at 200 units or less.
- Protected consumers also get the benefit of the previous slab: the first 100 units at Rs 10.54 and the next 100 at Rs 13.01.
