What changed this year

  • No change up to Rs 2.2 million a year (about Rs 183,000 a month). The 0%, 1% and 11% brackets are the same.
  • Middle brackets cut: 23% → 20%, and 30% → 25% / 29%.
  • Two new brackets (29% and 32%) before the 35% top rate, which now starts at Rs 7 million instead of Rs 4.1 million.
  • Biggest savings go to people earning Rs 300,000–1,000,000 a month.

How to calculate your own tax (example)

Monthly salary Rs 300,000 → annual Rs 3,600,000. This falls in the Rs 3.2–4.1 million slab: Rs 316,000 + 25% × (3,600,000 − 3,200,000) = Rs 316,000 + Rs 100,000 = Rs 416,000 a year, or Rs 34,667 a month.

FAQs

When do the new slabs apply?

From 1 July 2026. Your employer should have adjusted monthly withholding from your July 2026 salary. If not, the difference is settled by June 2027 or in your return.

Is medical allowance still exempt?

Tax is charged on taxable income. Check your salary slip and FBR rules for which allowances are exempt in your case.

Do I still need to file a return?

Yes. Filing keeps you on the Active Taxpayers List, which lowers withholding tax on banking, property and vehicles.
