Electricity Bill Splitter – Sub-Meter Calculator for Shared Houses
For joint families, tenants and shared houses
Electricity Bill Splitter (Sub-Meter Calculator)
Split one electricity bill fairly between portions or families using sub-meter readings. Choose whether fixed charges are shared equally or by use, and see each portion’s amount.
“Payable within due date” on the bill
Optional. Shown as “Fixed charges”
Used to share common areas (pump, stairs lights)
Portions
Units that the sub-meters don’t record (common lights, water pump, meter differences) are shared in proportion to each portion’s own units. Under single-slab billing, splitting by units is fairer than splitting the bill equally.
Tips for shared houses
- One main meter means the whole house is billed at one slab. Three portions using 250 units each push the house to 750 units at Rs 47.20/unit, while separate meters would bill each at Rs 33.10. Ask your DISCO about separate connections for separate portions.
- Install accurate digital sub-meters and read them on the same day as the main meter.
- Agree in writing how fixed charges and common use (water pump, stair lights) are shared.
